Comfortable, modest, breathable clothing. Shoulders and knees covered is a good baseline, especially at religious sites. Bring shoes that slip off easily — you'll be removing them at temples, mosques and dargahs.

Cover your head at gurudwaras and many dargahs (a scarf works fine), remove shoes before entering temples and mosques, and ask before photographing people in worship. Your guide will walk you through the etiquette of every site.
